1 I thought in my heart, "Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good." But that also proved to be meaningless.
1 내가 내 마음에 이르기를 자, 내가 시험삼아 너를 즐겁게 하리니 너는 낙을 누리라 하였으나 보라 이것도 헛되도다
1. 我心裏說：來罷，我以喜樂試試你，你好享福！誰知，這也是虛空。
2 "Laughter," I said, "is foolish. And what does pleasure accomplish?"
2 내가 웃음에 관하여 말하여 이르기를 그것은 미친 것이라 하였고 희락에 대하여 이르기를 이것이 무슨 소용이 있는가 하였노라
2. 我指嬉笑說：這是狂妄。論喜樂說：有何功效呢？
3 I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly--my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was worthwhile for men to do under heaven during the few days of their lives.
3 내가 내 마음으로 깊이 생각하기를 내가 어떻게 하여야 내 마음을 지혜로 다스리면서 술로 내 육신을 즐겁게 할까 또 내가 어떻게 하여야 천하의 인생들이 그들의 인생을 살아가는 동안 어떤 것이 선한 일인지를 알아볼 때까지 내 어리석음을 꼭 붙잡아 둘까하여
3. 我心裏察究，如何用酒使我肉體舒暢，我心卻仍以智慧引導我；又如何持住愚昧，等我看明世人，在天下一生當何事爲美。
4 I undertook great projects: I built houses for myself and planted vineyards.
4 나의 사업을 크게 하였노라 내가 나를 위하여 집들을 짓고 포도원을 일구며
4. 我爲自己動大工程，建造房屋，栽種葡萄園，
5 I made gardens and parks and planted all kinds of fruit trees in them.
5 여러 동산과 과원을 만들고 그 가운데에 각종 과목을 심었으며
5. 修造園囿，在其中栽種各樣果木樹；
6 I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees.
6 나를 위하여 수목을 기르는 삼림에 물을 주기 위하여 못들을 팠으며
6. 挖造水池，用以澆灌嫩小的樹木。
7 I bought male and female slaves and had other slaves who were born in my house. I also owned more herds and flocks than anyone in Jerusalem before me.
7 남녀 노비들을 사기도 하였고 나를 위하여 집에서 종들을 낳기도 하였으며 나보다 먼저 예루살렘에 있던 모든 자들보다도 내가 소와 양 떼의 소유를 더 많이 가졌으며
7. 我買了僕婢，也有生在家中的僕婢；又有許多牛群羊群，勝過以前在耶路撒冷衆人所有的。
8 I amassed silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired men and women singers, and a harem as well--the delights of the heart of man.
8 은 금과 왕들이 소유한 보배와 여러 지방의 보배를 나를 위하여 쌓고 또 노래하는 남녀들과 인생들이 기뻐하는 처첩들을 많이 두었노라
8. 我又爲自己積蓄金銀和君王的財寶，並各省的財寶；又得唱歌的男女和世人所喜愛的物，並許多的妃嬪。
9 I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. In all this my wisdom stayed with me.
9 내가 이같이 창성하여 나보다 먼저 예루살렘에 있던 모든 자들보다 더 창성하니 내 지혜도 내게 여전하도다
9. 這樣，我就日見昌盛，勝過以前在耶路撒冷的衆人。我的智慧仍然存留。
10 I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor.
10 무엇이든지 내 눈이 원하는 것을 내가 금하지 아니하며 무엇이든지 내 마음이 즐거워하는 것을 내가 막지 아니하였으니 이는 나의 모든 수고를 내 마음이 기뻐하였음이라 이것이 나의 모든 수고로 말미암아 얻은 몫이로다
10. 凡我眼所求的，我沒有留下不給他的；我心所樂的，我沒有禁止不享受的；因我的心爲我一切所勞碌的快樂，這是我從勞碌中所得的分。
11 Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.
11 그 후에 내가 생각해 본즉 내 손으로 한 모든 일과 내가 수고한 모든 것이 다 헛되어 바람을 잡는 것이며 해 아래에서 무익한 것이로다
11. 後來，我察看我手所經營的一切事和我勞碌所成的功。誰知都是虛空，都是捕風；在日光之下毫無益處。
12 Then I turned my thoughts to consider wisdom, and also madness and folly. What more can the king's successor do than what has already been done?
12 내가 돌이켜 지혜와 망령됨과 어리석음을 보았나니 왕 뒤에 오는 자는 무슨 일을 행할까 이미 행한 지 오래 전의 일일 뿐이리라
12. 我轉念觀看智慧、狂妄，和愚昧。在王以後而來的人還能作甚麽呢？也不過行早先所行的就是了。
13 I saw that wisdom is better than folly, just as light is better than darkness.
13 내가 보니 지혜가 우매보다 뛰어남이 빛이 어둠보다 뛰어남 같도다
13. 我便看出智慧勝過愚昧，如同光明勝過黑暗。
14 The wise man has eyes in his head, while the fool walks in the darkness; but I came to realize that the same fate overtakes them both.
14 지혜자는 그의 눈이 그의 머리 속에 있고 우매자는 어둠 속에 다니지만 그들 모두가 당하는 일이 모두 같으리라는 것을 나도 깨달아 알았도다
14. 智慧人的眼目光明（光明原文作在他頭上），愚昧人在黑暗裏行。我卻看明有一件事，這兩等人都必遇見。
15 Then I thought in my heart, "The fate of the fool will overtake me also. What then do I gain by being wise?" I said in my heart, "This too is meaningless."
15 내가 내 마음속으로 이르기를 우매자가 당한 것을 나도 당하리니 내게 지혜가 있었다 한들 내게 무슨 유익이 있으리요 하였도다 이에 내가 내 마음속으로 이르기를 이것도 헛되도다 하였도다
15. 我就心裏說：愚昧人所遇見的，我也必遇見，我爲何更有智慧呢？我心裏說，這也是虛空。
16 For the wise man, like the fool, will not be long remembered; in days to come both will be forgotten. Like the fool, the wise man too must die!
16 지혜자도 우매자와 함께 영원하도록 기억함을 얻지 못하나니 후일에는 모두 다 잊어버린 지 오랠 것임이라 오호라 지혜자의 죽음이 우매자의 죽음과 일반이로다
16. 智慧人和愚昧人一樣，永遠無人記念，因爲日後都被忘記；可歎智慧人死亡，與愚昧人無異。
17 So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
17 이러므로 내가 사는 것을 미워하였노니 이는 해 아래에서 하는 일이 내게 괴로움이요 모두 다 헛되어 바람을 잡으려는 것이기 때문이로다
17. 我所以恨惡生命；因爲在日光之下所行的事我都以爲煩惱，都是虛空，都是捕風。
18 I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me.
18 내가 해 아래에서 내가 한 모든 수고를 미워하였노니 이는 내 뒤를 이을 이에게 남겨 주게 됨이라
18. 我恨惡一切的勞碌，就是我在日光之下的勞碌，因爲我得來的必留給我以後的人。
19 And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the work into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless.
19 그 사람이 지혜자일지, 우매자일지야 누가 알랴마는 내가 해 아래에서 내 지혜를 다하여 수고한 모든 결과를 그가 다 관리하리니 이것도 헛되도다
19. 那人是智慧是愚昧，誰能知道？他竟要管理我勞碌所得的，就是我在日光之下用智慧所得的。這也是虛空。
20 So my heart began to despair over all my toilsome labor under the sun.
20 이러므로 내가 해 아래에서 한 모든 수고에 대하여 내가 내 마음에 실망하였도다
20. 故此，我轉想我在日光之下所勞碌的一切工作，心便絶望。
21 For a man may do his work with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then he must leave all he owns to someone who has not worked for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune.
21 어떤 사람은 그 지혜와 지식과 재주를 다하여 수고하였어도 그가 얻은 것을 수고하지 아니한 자에게 그의 몫으로 넘겨주리니 이것도 헛된 것이며 큰 악이로다
21. 因爲有人用智慧、知識、靈巧所勞碌得來的，卻要留給未曾勞碌的人爲分。這也是虛空，也是大患。
22 What does a man get for all the toil and anxious striving with which he labors under the sun?
22 사람이 해 아래에서 행하는 모든 수고와 마음에 애쓰는 것이 무슨 소득이 있으랴
22. 人在日光之下勞碌累心，在他一切的勞碌上得著甚麽呢？
23 All his days his work is pain and grief; even at night his mind does not rest. This too is meaningless.
23 일평생에 근심하며 수고하는 것이 슬픔뿐이라 그의 마음이 밤에도 쉬지 못하나니 이것도 헛되도다
23. 因爲他日日憂慮，他的勞苦成爲愁煩，連夜間心也不安。這也是虛空。
24 A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God,
24 사람이 먹고 마시며 수고하는 것보다 그의 마음을 더 기쁘게 하는 것은 없나니 내가 이것도 본즉 하나님의 손에서 나오는 것이로다
24. 人莫强如喫喝，且在勞碌中享福，我看這也是出於神的手。
25 for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?
25 아, 먹고 즐기는 일을 누가 나보다 더 해 보았으랴
25. 論到喫用、享福，誰能勝過我呢？
26 To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
26 하나님은 그가 기뻐하시는 자에게는 지혜와 지식과 희락을 주시나 죄인에게는 노고를 주시고 그가 모아 쌓게 하사 하나님을 기뻐하는 자에게 그가 주게 하시지만 이것도 헛되어 바람을 잡는 것이로다
26. 神喜悅誰，就給誰智慧、知識，和喜樂；惟有罪人，神使他勞苦，叫他將所收聚的、所堆積的歸給神所喜悅的人這也是虛空，也是捕風。
