1 When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, "Why do you just keep looking at each other?"
1 그 때에 야곱이 애굽에 곡식이 있음을 보고 아들들에게 이르되 너희는 어찌하여 서로 바라보고만 있느냐
1. 雅各見埃及有糧，就對兒子們說：你們爲甚麽彼此觀望呢？
2 He continued, "I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die."
2 야곱이 또 이르되 내가 들은즉 저 애굽에 곡식이 있다 하니 너희는 그리로 가서 거기서 우리를 위하여 사오라 그러면 우리가 살고 죽지 아니하리라 하매
2. 我聽見埃及有糧，你們可以下去，從那裏爲我們糴些來，使我們可以存活，不至於死。
3 Then ten of Joseph's brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.
3 요셉의 형 열 사람이 애굽에서 곡식을 사려고 내려갔으나
3. 於是，約瑟的十個哥哥都下埃及糴糧去了。
4 But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph's brother, with the others, because he was afraid that harm might come to him.
4 야곱이 요셉의 아우 베냐민은 그의 형들과 함께 보내지 아니하였으니 이는 그의 생각에 재난이 그에게 미칠까 두려워함이었더라
4. 但約瑟的兄弟便雅憫，雅各沒有打發他和哥哥們同去，因爲雅各說：恐怕他遭害。
5 So Israel's sons were among those who went to buy grain, for the famine was in the land of Canaan also.
5 이스라엘의 아들들이 양식 사러간 자 중에 있으니 가나안 땅에 기근이 있음이라
5. 來糴糧的人中有以色列的兒子們，因爲迦南地也有饑荒。
6 Now Joseph was the governor of the land, the one who sold grain to all its people. So when Joseph's brothers arrived, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.
6 때에 요셉이 나라의 총리로서 그 땅 모든 백성에게 곡식을 팔더니 요셉의 형들이 와서 그 앞에서 땅에 엎드려 절하매
6. 當時治理埃及地的是約瑟；糶糧給那地衆民的就是他。約瑟的哥哥們來了，臉伏於地，向他下拜。
7 As soon as Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger and spoke harshly to them. "Where do you come from?" he asked. "From the land of Canaan," they replied, "to buy food."
7 요셉이 보고 형들인 줄을 아나 모르는 체하고 엄한 소리로 그들에게 말하여 이르되 너희가 어디서 왔느냐 그들이 이르되 곡물을 사려고 가나안에서 왔나이다
7. 約瑟看見他哥哥們，就認得他們，卻裝作生人，向他們說些嚴厲話，問他們說：你們從那裏來？他們說：我們從南地來糴糧。
8 Although Joseph recognized his brothers, they did not recognize him.
8 요셉은 그의 형들을 알아보았으나 그들은 요셉을 알아보지 못하더라
8. 約瑟認得他哥哥們，他們卻不認得他。
9 Then he remembered his dreams about them and said to them, "You are spies! You have come to see where our land is unprotected."
9 요셉이 그들에게 대하여 꾼 꿈을 생각하고 그들에게 이르되 너희는 정탐꾼들이라 이 나라의 틈을 엿보려고 왔느니라
9. 約瑟想起從前所作的那兩個夢，就對他們說：你們是奸細，來窺探這地的虛實。
10 "No, my lord," they answered. "Your servants have come to buy food.
10 그들이 그에게 이르되 내 주여 아니니이다 당신의 종들은 곡물을 사러 왔나이다
10. 他們對他說：我主阿，不是的。僕人們是糴糧來的。
11 We are all the sons of one man. Your servants are honest men, not spies."
11 우리는 다 한 사람의 아들들로서 확실한 자들이니 당신의 종들은 정탐꾼이 아니니이다
11. 我們都是一個人的兒子，是誠實人；僕人們並不是奸細。
12 "No!" he said to them. "You have come to see where our land is unprotected."
12 요셉이 그들에게 이르되 아니라 너희가 이 나라의 틈을 엿보러 왔느니라
12. 約瑟說：不然，你們必是窺探這地的虛實來的。
13 But they replied, "Your servants were twelve brothers, the sons of one man, who lives in the land of Canaan. The youngest is now with our father, and one is no more."
13 그들이 이르되 당신의 종 우리들은 열두 형제로서 가나안 땅 한 사람의 아들들이라 막내아들은 오늘 아버지와 함께 있고 또 하나는 없어졌나이다
13. 他們說：僕人們本是弟兄十二人，是迦南地一個人的兒子，頂小的現今在我們的父親那裏，有一個沒有了。
14 Joseph said to them, "It is just as I told you: You are spies!
14 요셉이 그들에게 이르되 내가 너희에게 이르기를 너희는 정탐꾼들이라 한 말이 이것이니라
14. 約瑟說：我纔說你們是奸細，這話實在不錯。
15 And this is how you will be tested: As surely as Pharaoh lives, you will not leave this place unless your youngest brother comes here.
15 너희는 이같이 하여 너희 진실함을 증명할 것이라 바로의 생명으로 맹세하노니 너희 막내 아우가 여기 오지 아니하면 너희가 여기서 나가지 못하리라
15. 我指著法老的性命起誓，若是你們的小兄弟不到這裏來，你們就不得出這地方，從此就可以把你們證驗出來了。
16 Send one of your number to get your brother; the rest of you will be kept in prison, so that your words may be tested to see if you are telling the truth. If you are not, then as surely as Pharaoh lives, you are spies!"
16 너희 중 하나를 보내어 너희 아우를 데려오게 하고 너희는 갇히어 있으라 내가 너희의 말을 시험하여 너희 중에 진실이 있는지 보리라 바로의 생명으로 맹세하노니 그리하지 아니하면 너희는 과연 정탐꾼이니라 하고
16. 須要打發你們中間一個人去，把你們的兄弟帶來。至於你們，都要囚在這裏，好證驗你們的話眞不眞，若不眞，指著法老的性命起誓，你們一定是奸細。
17 And he put them all in custody for three days.
17 그들을 다 함께 삼 일을 가두었더라
17. 於是約瑟把他們都下在監裏三天。
18 On the third day, Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live, for I fear God:
18 사흘 만에 요셉이 그들에게 이르되 나는 하나님을 경외하노니 너희는 이같이 하여 생명을 보전하라
18. 到了第三天，約瑟對他們說：我是敬畏神的；你們照我的話行就可以存活。
19 If you are honest men, let one of your brothers stay here in prison, while the rest of you go and take grain back for your starving households.
19 너희가 확실한 자들이면 너희 형제 중 한 사람만 그 옥에 갇히게 하고 너희는 곡식을 가지고 가서 너희 집안의 굶주림을 구하고
19. 你們如果是誠實人，可以留你們中間的一個人囚在監裏，但你們可以帶著糧食回去，救你們家裏的饑荒。
20 But you must bring your youngest brother to me, so that your words may be verified and that you may not die." This they proceeded to do.
20 너희 막내 아우를 내게로 데리고 오라 그러면 너희 말이 진실함이 되고 너희가 죽지 아니하리라 하니 그들이 그대로 하니라
20. 把你們的小兄弟帶到我這裏來，如此，你們的話便有證據，你們也不至於死。他們就照樣而行。
21 They said to one another, "Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that's why this distress has come upon us."
21 그들이 서로 말하되 우리가 아우의 일로 말미암아 범죄하였도다 그가 우리에게 애걸할 때에 그 마음의 괴로움을 보고도 듣지 아니하였으므로 이 괴로움이 우리에게 임하도다
21. 他們彼此說：我們在兄弟身上實在有罪。他哀求我們的時候，我們見他心裏的愁苦，卻不肯聽，所以這場苦難臨我們身上。
22 Reuben replied, "Didn't I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn't listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood."
22 르우벤이 그들에게 대답하여 이르되 내가 너희에게 그 아이에 대하여 죄를 짓지 말라고 하지 아니하였더냐 그래도 너희가 듣지 아니하였느니라 그러므로 그의 핏값을 치르게 되었도다 하니
22. 流便說：我豈不是對你們說過，不可傷害那孩子麽？只是你們不肯聽，所以流他血的罪向我們追討。
23 They did not realize that Joseph could understand them, since he was using an interpreter.
23 그들 사이에 통역을 세웠으므로 그들은 요셉이 듣는 줄을 알지 못하였더라
23. 他們不知道約瑟聽得出來，因爲在他們中間用通事傳話。
24 He turned away from them and began to weep, but then turned back and spoke to them again. He had Simeon taken from them and bound before their eyes.
24 요셉이 그들을 떠나가서 울고 다시 돌아와서 그들과 말하다가 그들 중에서 시므온을 끌어내어 그들의 눈 앞에서 결박하고
24. 約瑟轉身退去，哭了一場，又回來對他們說話，就從他們中間挑出西緬來，在他們眼前把他捆綁。
25 Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, to put each man's silver back in his sack, and to give them provisions for their journey. After this was done for them,
25 명하여 곡물을 그 그릇에 채우게 하고 각 사람의 돈은 그의 자루에 도로 넣게 하고 또 길 양식을 그들에게 주게 하니 그대로 행하였더라
25. 約瑟吩咐人把糧食裝滿他們的器具，把各人的銀子歸還在各人的口袋裏，又給他們路上用的食物，人就照他的話了。
26 they loaded their grain on their donkeys and left.
26 그들이 곡식을 나귀에 싣고 그곳을 떠났더니
26. 他們就把糧食馱在驢上，離開那裏去了。
27 At the place where they stopped for the night one of them opened his sack to get feed for his donkey, and he saw his silver in the mouth of his sack.
27 한 사람이 여관에서 나귀에게 먹이를 주려고 자루를 풀고 본즉 그 돈이 자루 아귀에 있는지라
27. 到了住宿的地方，他們中間有一個人打開口袋，要拿料餵驢，纔看見自己的銀子仍在口袋裏，
28 "My silver has been returned," he said to his brothers. "Here it is in my sack." Their hearts sank and they turned to each other trembling and said, "What is this that God has done to us?"
28 그가 그 형제에게 말하되 내 돈을 도로 넣었도다 보라 자루 속에 있도다 이에 그들이 혼이 나서 떨며 서로 돌아보며 말하되 하나님이 어찌하여 이런 일을 우리에게 행하셨는가 하고
28. 就對弟兄們說：我的銀子歸還了，看那，仍在我口袋裏！他們就提心吊膽，戰戰兢兢的彼此說：這是神向我們作麽呢？
29 When they came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan, they told him all that had happened to them. They said,
29 그들이 가나안 땅에 돌아와 그들의 아버지 야곱에게 이르러 그들이 당한 일을 자세히 알리어 아뢰되
29. 他們來到迦南地、他們的父親雅各那裏，將所遭遇的事都告訴他，說：
30 "The man who is lord over the land spoke harshly to us and treated us as though we were spying on the land.
30 그 땅의 주인인 그 사람이 엄하게 우리에게 말씀하고 우리를 그 땅에 대한 정탐꾼으로 여기기로
30. 那地的主對我們說嚴厲的話，把我們當作窺探那地的奸細。
31 But we said to him, 'We are honest men; we are not spies.
31 우리가 그에게 이르되 우리는 확실한 자들이요 정탐꾼이 아니니이다
31. 我們對他說：我們是誠實人，並不是奸細。
32 We were twelve brothers, sons of one father. One is no more, and the youngest is now with our father in Canaan.'
32 우리는 한 아버지의 아들 열두 형제로서 하나는 없어지고 막내는 오늘 우리 아버지와 함께 가나안 땅에 있나이다 하였더니
32. 我們本是弟兄十二人，都是一個父親的兒子，有一個沒有了，頂小的如今同我們的父親在迦南地。
33 "Then the man who is lord over the land said to us, 'This is how I will know whether you are honest men: Leave one of your brothers here with me, and take food for your starving households and go.
33 그 땅의 주인인 그 사람이 우리에게 이르되 내가 이같이 하여 너희가 확실한 자들임을 알리니 너희 형제 중의 하나를 내게 두고 양식을 가지고 가서 너희 집안의 굶주림을 구하고
33. 那地的主對我們說：若要我知道你們是誠實人，可以留下你們中間的一個人在我這裏，你們可以帶著糧食回去，你們家裏的饑荒。
34 But bring your youngest brother to me so I will know that you are not spies but honest men. Then I will give your brother back to you, and you can trade in the land.'"
34 너희 막내 아우를 내게로 데려오라 그러면 너희가 정탐꾼이 아니요 확실한 자들임을 내가 알고 너희 형제를 너희에게 돌리리니 너희가 이 나라에서 무역하리라 하더이다 하고
34. 把你們的小兄弟帶到我這裏來，我便知道你們不是奸細，乃是誠實人。這樣，我就把你們的弟兄交給你們，你們可以在這地作買賣。
35 As they were emptying their sacks, there in each man's sack was his pouch of silver! When they and their father saw the money pouches, they were frightened.
35 각기 자루를 쏟고 본즉 각 사람의 돈 뭉치가 그 자루 속에 있는 지라 그들과 그들의 아버지가 돈 뭉치를 보고 다 두려워하더니
35. 後來他們倒口袋，不料，各人的銀包都在口袋裏；他們和父親看見銀包就都害怕。
36 Their father Jacob said to them, "You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!"
36 그들의 아버지 야곱이 그들에게 이르되 너희가 나에게 내 자식들을 잃게 하도다 요셉도 없어졌고 시므온도 없어졌거늘 베냐민을 또 빼앗아 가고자 하니 이는 다 나를 해롭게 함이로다
36. 他們的父親雅各對他們說：你們使我喪失我的兒子：約瑟沒有了，西緬也沒有了，你們又要將便雅憫帶去；這些都歸到我身上了。
37 Then Reuben said to his father, "You may put both of my sons to death if I do not bring him back to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him back."
37 르우벤이 그의 아버지에게 말하여 이르되 내가 그를 아버지께로 데리고 오지 아니하거든 내 두 아들을 죽이소서 그를 내 손에 맡기소서 내가 그를 아버지께로 데리고 돌아오리이다
37. 流便對他父親說：我若不帶他回來交給你，你可以殺我的兩個兒子。只管把他交在我手裏，我必帶他回來交給你。
38 But Jacob said, "My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow."
38 야곱이 이르되 내 아들은 너희와 함께 내려가지 못하리니 그의 형은 죽고 그만 남았음이라 만일 너희가 가는 길에서 재난이 그에게 미치면 너희가 내 흰머리를 슬퍼하며 스올로 내려가게 함이 되리라
38. 雅各說：我的兒子不可與你們一同下去；他哥哥死了，只剩下他，他若在你們所行的路上遭害，那便是你們使我髮蒼蒼、悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了。
