1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
1 예수께서 그리스도이심을 믿는 자마다 하나님께로부터 난 자니 또한 낳으신 이를 사랑하는 자마다 그에게서 난 자를 사랑하느니라
1. 凡信耶穌是基督的，都是從神而生，凡愛生他之神的，也必愛從神生的。
2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.
2 우리가 하나님을 사랑하고 그의 계명들을 지킬 때에 이로써 우리가 하나님의 자녀를 사랑하는 줄을 아느니라
2. 我們若愛神，又遵守他的誡命，從此就知道我們愛神的兒女。
3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,
3 하나님을 사랑하는 것은 이것이니 우리가 그의 계명들을 지키는 것이라 그의 계명들은 무거운 것이 아니로다
3. 我們遵守神的誡命，這就是愛他了，並且他的誡命不是難守的。
4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
4 무릇 하나님께로부터 난 자마다 세상을 이기느니라 세상을 이기는 승리는 이것이니 우리의 믿음이니라
4. 因爲凡從神生的，就勝過世界；使我們勝了世界的，就是我們的信心。
5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
5 예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 자가 아니면 세상을 이기는 자가 누구냐
5. 勝過世界的是誰呢？不是那信耶穌是神兒子的麽？
6 This is the one who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
6 이는 물과 피로 임하신 이시니 곧 예수 그리스도시라 물로만 아니요 물과 피로 임하셨고 증언하는 이는 성령이시니 성령은 진리니라
6. 這藉著水和血而來的，就是耶穌基督；不是單用水，乃是用水又用血，
7 For there are three that testify:
7 증언하는 이가 셋이니
7. 並且有聖靈作見證，因爲聖靈就是眞理。
8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
8 성령과 물과 피라 또한 이 셋은 합하여 하나이니라
8. 作見證的原來有三：就是聖靈、水，與血，這三樣也都歸於一。
9 We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.
9 만일 우리가 사람들의 증언을 받을진대 하나님의 증거는 더욱 크도다 하나님의 증거는 이것이니 그의 아들에 대하여 증언하신 것이라
9. 我們旣領受人的見證，神的見證更該領受了（該領受：原文作大），因神的見證是爲他兒子作的。
10 Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.
10 하나님의 아들을 믿는 자는 자기 안에 증거가 있고 하나님을 믿지 아니하는 자는 하나님을 거짓말하는 자로 만드나니 이는 하나님께서 그 아들에 대하여 증언하신 증거를 믿지 아니하였음이라
10. 信神兒子的，就有這見證在他心裏；不信神的，就是將神當作說謊的，因不信神爲他兒子作的見證。
11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
11 또 증거는 이것이니 하나님이 우리에게 영생을 주신 것과 이 생명이 그의 아들 안에 있는 그것이라
11. 這見證就是神賜給我們永生；這永生也是在他兒子裏面。
12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
12 아들이 있는 자에게는 생명이 있고 하나님의 아들이 없는 자에게는 생명이 없느니라
12. 人有了神的兒子就有生命，沒有神的兒子就沒有生命。
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
13 내가 하나님의 아들의 이름을 믿는 너희에게 이것을 쓰는 것은 너희로 하여금 너희에게 영생이 있음을 알게 하려 함이라
13. 我將這些話寫給你們信奉神兒子之名的人，要叫你們知道自己有永生。
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
14 그를 향하여 우리가 가진 바 담대함이 이것이니 그의 뜻대로 무엇을 구하면 들으심이라
14. 我們若照他的旨意求甚麽，他就聽我們，這是我們向他所存坦然無懼的心。
15 And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him.
15 우리가 무엇이든지 구하는 바를 들으시는 줄을 안즉 우리가 그에게 구한 그것을 얻은 줄을 또한 아느니라
15. 旣然知道他聽我們一切所求的，就知道我們所求於他的，無不得著。
16 If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that.
16 누구든지 형제가 사망에 이르지 아니하는 죄 범하는 것을 보거든 구하라 그리하면 사망에 이르지 아니하는 범죄자들을 위하여 그에게 생명을 주시리라 사망에 이르는 죄가 있으니 이에 관하여 나는 구하라 하지 않노라
16. 人若看見弟兄犯了不至於死的罪，就當爲他祈求，神必將生命賜給他；有至於死的罪，我不說當爲這罪祈求。
17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.
17 모든 불의가 죄로되 사망에 이르지 아니하는 죄도 있도다
17. 凡不義的事都是罪，也有不至於死的罪。
18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.
18 하나님께로부터 난 자는 다 범죄하지 아니하는 줄을 우리가 아노라 하나님께로부터 나신 자가 그를 지키시매 악한 자가 그를 만지지도 못하느니라
18. 我們知道凡從神生的，必不犯罪，從神生的，必保守自己（有古卷作：那從神生的必保護他），那惡者也就無法他。
19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
19 또 아는 것은 우리는 하나님께 속하고 온 세상은 악한 자 안에 처한 것이며
19. 我們知道，我們是屬神的，全世界都臥在那惡者手下。
20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true--even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
20 또 아는 것은 하나님의 아들이 이르러 우리에게 지각을 주사 우리로 참된 자를 알게 하신 것과 또한 우리가 참된 자 곧 그의 아들 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 것이니 그는 참하나님이시오 영생이시라
20. 我們也知道，神的兒子已經來到，且將智慧賜給我們，使我們認識那位眞實的，我們也在那位眞實的裏面，就是他兒子耶穌基督裏面。這是眞神，也是永生。
21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
21 자녀들아 너희 자신을 지켜 우상에게서 멀리하라
21. 小子們哪，你們要自守，遠避偶像！
